Dear Rapid River parents/guardians and K-12 students:

Starting in January, the students were allowed to come back to school for face-to-face instruction while we also continued virtual learning. Since then we have been reviewing the number of students live-streaming as well as the number of students that are failing. Unfortunately, the percentage of students that are live-streaming have significantly lower grades than students who are in-person. In addition to that, we have also noticed many students have been in and out of the classroom throughout the last couple months, which worries us about the safety of our students and making them accountable for being in class.

After looking at this data, we have developed new guidelines for the fourth marking period. These guidelines will help address our safety concerns, make the students more accountable for their learning, and provide the best possible instruction for our students.

These expectations will be effective on Tuesday, April 6, and will last through the end of the 2020-2021 school year.

Below are the revised expectations for online learning:

1. If students are on school property, they will be face-to-face in the classroom to which they are assigned. (Students have been skipping class and logging in online while in the building.)
2. Any student who is failing a class at the end of the third quarter will lose the privilege of live-streaming and will be required to attend every class face-to-face.
3. Students cannot alternate between streaming and face-to-face on an hourly basis, no hybrid instruction will be permitted, They will either be fully virtual or fully face-to-face, no back and forth. What this means is that a student cannot attend an hour in class and then decide to leave and livestream for another hour due to what is going on in the class.
Exceptions to the in-person expectation for failing students will be given for the following reasons:

1. They are prohibited from attending school due to Covid exposure/quarantine.

2. They are home ill for another reason, and a parent has called to excuse the absence.

***Online learning only students will have to report that to Mr. Warning by March 22nd.

Sincerely,

William Warning/Rapid River Principal
